everything is prettier in paris

my mom went to paris last week and i just had one request for a souvenir - a real, parisian macaroon.  i have seen pictures of these beautiful pastries and even sampled american versions (surely not the same), but i wanted the real deal.  now, these are not the stacked coconut masses you see at your main street, america bakery...these are delicate little sugar sandwiches and they come in all different colors and flavors.   so my sweet mom did not disappoint - she picked up a dozen right before she left for the airport for her flight back to the states so that they would be fresh.  and then brought them to my house the next day.  she's good like that.

first, i was dying over the bag (please excuse the slightly beat up state...it had to travel a long distance to get to me).  it's a nice quality bag that you don't get here often...unless you shop exclusively at neiman marcus.  they have really nice shopping bags.

then, i saw the box that the macaroons were packed into.  OMG.  (and look how cute that little seal is!)

then i opened this pretty pink box and found 12 little macaroons, all shades of the rainbow, packed so neatly it almost made me want to cry.  i wish i had a picture of the full box.  of course i dug in immediately and man, are they tasty!  the caramel was my favorite...and i usually don't even like caramel?

here are the lone survivors, currently...
subject to change very soon.

have a lovely weekend!
