pink or blue?

this house just loves to keep me guessing.  mostly the surprises are the good kind (so far...knock on wood), like finding real hardwoods underneath the nasty carpet in the calliespondence worldwide HQ.  that's ok if things like that keep springing up on us.

i have to admit, i have been unnaturally excited about our blooming hydrangeas.  why you ask?!  well, last spring when we moved in, our house had been uninhabited for approximately nine months due to the foreclosure of the prior owner.  that meant the landscaping had not been tended to for probably close to a year by the time we got the keys, and let me tell you how we jumped right on that.  yeah right.

our house came with many large hydrangea bushes and they had not been cut back, just had the dead brown bud still hanging out, which meant they would not bloom the upcoming season.  and me not knowing anything about gardening in the least thought, darn...looks like we'll have to uproot those dead guys and haul them off!  oh no no.  my mom schooled me in hydrangea 101 - you trim off the dead buds in late summer/early fall, and they will bloom again the next year.  nice!!  for the past month, they have been teasing us with their little green buds a-popping, but no color yet.  i have been dying to know!

until yesterday.

looks like they're going to be blue and white!  yippee.

y'all, in a couple of weeks i'm going to have more hydrangeas than i'm going to know what to do with. i think all invitation orders are going to come with a complimentary blue hydrangea bouquet in the months of may and june.  yes?

and, my planters really have me getting into potting.  i tried some of my all-time favorite flowers, ranunculus, in them but they got fried to a crisp being in that much sun.  which caused me to learn that you have to get a "full sun" variety for these babies.  right.

i picked up some 'summerwine common yarrow' at the nursery yesterday...whatever that is.  i just go on looks.  and my creeping jenny is going cray cray.  simmer down lady!

sometimes i like to think that i'm not old, but then i face the facts and think about things like...i enjoy gardening now.

and apparently blog about it.

crap.

xoxo

  1. I was admiring my planters before I left the house this morning and thought "gosh, I'm so adult and together." Then I remembered my mom did my planters. Oh well, I keep kids alive...that's adult!
