yesterday we featured the beautiful wedding of
katie and jess in oxford, mississippi...and you know who else is from mississippi? yes, oprah, but besides her. sela ward! ok, sela may be sort of an obscure 90s actress (who didn't love
sisters...) with a recent hit tv show to some - but she's forever the "famous person" we mentioned during rush back in the day, to me. ("the day" being approximately 1998 through 2002.) she was a chi o, you see. i think every sorority had a "famous person" whose name you would drop when conversation got a little slow during a rush party. ours was sela - she was a chi o right next door at the u. of alabama and was (
ahem) homecoming queen?! i mean, that is quite a feat at any large southern university, as they are all swarming with beautiful and charming girls. so we were proud to tout ol' sela.
her bel air home is
featured in the september
traditional home issue. it has southern design influences woven throughout and was designed by her old friend from mississippi, ann runyon carter. check out all that color and natural light!
i love all of the art - there is so much to feast your eyes on!
those doors...i die.
can not all have homes this beautiful?
HARDLY.
sorry, that's just for the chi os. :)
xoxo
Love it. Don't worry, Sela Ward is way more current than our "person" - Georgia O'Keefe and...embarrassingly...the old lady who raps in "The Wedding Singer" were also KDs. Seriously. (Although it was important/noteworthy during 1995 rush...hehe.)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous home! Love those modern chairs in the dining room. And for fellow KD, Ginny, don't forget about the founder of Vera Bradley! (Who is not named Vera Bradley...)
ReplyDeleteLove Sela's style! Coincidentally, we just moved to Meridian, MS, her hometown, and there are many references to Sela and her family around here. On our tour of the country club, someone pointed out a gentleman in another room and whispered that that was "Sela Ward's brother." I'm sure he has a name all of his own... ;)
ReplyDeleteShe's a good one to reference in the south - as a Gamma Phi we had Kristin Chenoweth. If you're not familiar with Broadway that might not ring any bells...
OMG this is amazing!!! Having been in LA a year now, I have to say my love of west coast design has grown...but of course my southern roots remain strongly intact. I often struggle with how to represent both sides... she (and her decorator extraordinaire) have done such a beautiful job here! The art KILLS, the light and color and windows and gardens and...wow. The scale of everything, its all so...thoughtful. So, so good. And hey, at least you have a "person"... our biggest claim to fame is that Fozzie Bear was named after Alpha Xi Delta's nickname ("the fuzzies"... ewwww?!) because Jane Henson was a member. The first Kermit the Frog was made out of AZD curtains. That's all we got. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Callie, I always love your Chi O references, and that Sela Ward has some great taste - that polka dot chair,,, be still my heart!
