sophie and pat: small town chic wedding

many of those who know me well are aware that i come from a very large family. my dad used to always say that my grandfather was a “prolific man,” boasting ten children…so there are a lot of shockleys running around here in georgia. my clan hails from apalachee, which is a tiny town outside an already small town of madison, georgia. i grew up visiting my grandmother (my grandfather passed on before I arrived on the scene) in the same house that my dad grew up in on shockley road. we would go on sundays, and first slip into church (always a good ten to fifteen minutes late), take my grandmother to the piccadilly cafeteria in athens for lunch and then go back to her house where us kids would play parcheesi, eat copious amounts of granny sue’s fudge, explore the barn out back and hopefully not have to go and cut our own switch from the bushes for a spanking if we acted up (and yes this all occured in the 1980s not 1930s)…while the adults sat on the front porch in rocking chairs catching up. it’s a gorgeous old house with charm oozing out of its large front porch, creaky floors, original windows (the kind that have wavy glass) and impossibly tall ceilings…all of which make it the perfect place for a sweet, small wedding.


which brings to me to my lovely cousin, sophie. sophie and i are only two years apart in age and i always love being around her. she lives in nashville now so we don’t see each other too often, but luckily we have many, many family gatherings to bring her back home! sophie and pat have been dating since college and to everyone’s delight, got engaged last summer and planned a wedding in apalachee on june 5th, 2010. i was beyond excited to work with her on all of her paper products including save the dates, gorgeous letterpress invitations, wedding weekend itineraries, favor cards and programs! she has exquisite taste so i knew we were in for some good looking stationery items. i loved the approach she took – “traditional with a twist.” you can see this throughout her wedding, how she chose timeless and elegant pieces and added her own flair to them. i was so touched that she wore my grandmother’s (from the other side) brooch in her hair…many of my close friends wore it in their hair on their own wedding day, and then i did as well.
