initial birth announcements - part I

how fun is it, after cooking a baby for nine long months, to reveal to the world his or her name?!  i know that with the surge of facebook, twitter, email and texts, folks find out names of babies pretty much immediately nowadays...but it's still exciting to formally release the name, birthday, weight and all that other good stuff that goes on birth announcements.  obviously the new parents love the name of the baby, so it's great fun to feature an initial or monogram of the babe on the annoucement.

i remember when rush was born, i absolutely could not wait to get my hands on my phone to send out his name.  of course in my case there were hours of waiting with recovery from the c-section, getting settled into the postpartum room with those...things...(blood circulators?)...around your calves and ankles, and then asking your husband to make sure you spelled the name right because after two epidurals and God knows how much percocet or morphine (as long as it's something), you are not so on your toes...  it's just so exciting, you toss around all of these names for months and then, finally...he or she arrives in the world and they have a name that you and your husband chose.  how cool!

recently i've completed two announcements, both for little boys, that featured an inital at the top of the announcement...a detail that i just love.  check out the first one for little wood (hence, the "w") below.  we letterpressed his announcement in green ink, then paired it with a turquoise envelope and a fun print.  wood's mama, sara, added a black and white picture of the sweet little thing and it was complete!

initial birth announcements part II to come!
